Work for All

Extends the design process (from Studio 1) to include the development of software, the use of instrumentation and measurement techniques, and the consideration of scientific research and technological development within cultural, historical, and social contexts and values. Introduces fundamental principles and techniques of programming and surveys types of sensors and basic principles of circuit design (including Ohm’s Law, Kirchoff’s Laws, Thevenin and Norton equivalent circuits). Supplies context in ideas about technical progress and scientific facts, the role of design in social institutions, and social issues facing technical professionals and knowledge domains. The main client for the design project is HRC: Human Resource Center of Edgar and Clark Counties, Illinois. Student projects will seek to improve the efficiency and/or satisfaction with which adults with disabilities perform their jobs in a commercial laundry facility.

Coin Wrappers

Design, Implementation, and Individual Specification

Proficient engineering designers must be able to interact well with clients and cater to their specific physical and medical needs when creating interactive assistive devices. In this project, we worked closely with a company that provides employment for those with disabilities to improve the quality, speed, and efficiency of our client's work.
